If any of you readers out there have been on a ‘Queer Eye’ binge like we have, then you’re probably feeling inspired and more than ready to throw out some old stuff to make space for the new! ‘Becoming better and beautiful’ is our life motto and so should our surroundings always reflect that! There is no excuse to live like a college student now that you’re in your 20s (or more worryingly, 30s). So, it’s time to *ahem* burn that old cartoon bed sheet and lumpy pillow you’ve been sleeping on, because once you start collecting some chic basics, your space will quickly start to transform into a place you’ll want to show off!
- Live greenery
Nothing breathes more life into a space like some houseplants (and quite literally, too). The right houseplant not only makes your home immediately more aesthetically pleasing, but also shows that you are capable of taking care of things. Houseplants are like art, they bring visual inspiration and you appreciate them more and more over time (if you take good care of them!). They are also little air purifiers, which is so important if you live in a big city!
- Comfortable bed sheets and pillows
So many bed sheets and pillowcases are made from synthetic materials which not only makes you sweaty but can also cause breakouts. You don’t want or need that poor quality of sleep, trust me. In the meantime, check if your pillows are old and lumpy, because not only do old pillows accumulate years of bacteria from sweat and drool, but if they no longer hold shape, then they are not good for your spine! So, do yourself a favor and buy some new, simple bedding and pillow sets, look for something that’s cotton or a natural fiber, and you’ll immediately see the difference.
- Matching towel set
You’ll be surprised at how luxurious your bathroom will look and feel once you get yourself a whole matching set of Egyptian cotton towels, from washcloths, to hand towels to bath towels to bath sheets, the whole shebang. Nothing is more careless and gross than having your guests wipe their hands on your used, dingy shower towel.
- Matching silverware and stemware
Open your kitchen drawer and take a look inside: if your cutlery is old or a random assortment accumulated from lucky draws, giveaways or gift sets, you might want to consider donating some away! When entertaining guests, using mystery silverware is just not cute. You can easily find some nice and affordable silverware sets in homeware stores like IKEA or ZARA HOME.
- Set of pots and pans
Firstly, kudos to you if you’ve been cooking your meals at home. Too many young people nowadays overlook the importance of home-cooking. However, if you’ve only got that one trusty skillet, or that pan that’s not-so-nonstick anymore, you may want to think about investing in more pots and pans for your culinary journey. The reason is that using old pans that are chipped is unhealthy and potentially dangerous. Purchase a more complete set so you can start cooking real meals, uncompromised.
